Heat flux sensor boasts accuracy and repeatability
Sequoia has a new heat flux sensor that delivers the high accuracy and repeatability of Schmidt-Boelter type sensors with much faster response time and true first-order performance.
Sequoia has a new heat flux sensor that delivers the high accuracy and repeatability of Schmidt-Boelter type sensors with much faster response time and true first-order performance.
The new Vatell Schmidt-Boelter gauge from Sequoia uses advanced materials and unique construction to isolate the reference temperature thermocouples furthest from the face of the sensor.
This isolation eliminates the second order response usually experienced when using Schmidt-Boelter gauges, which slows response time and complicates heat flux measurements.
Where conventional sensors require a very thin electrically insulating wafer to maximise response, the new gauge features a thicker wafer that reduces thermal resistance at the points of contact with the sensor housing.
The new design achieves first order response time less than 10ms.
Sensitivity is also high, at 250uV/W/cm2.
The gauge is available in a variety of housings, including conduction or water-cooled types, allowing this advanced gauge to be used in applications requiring either total or radiant heat flux measurements.
The gauge itself is built around an aluminium nitride wafer, which delivers enhanced thermal performance compared to the conventional anodised aluminium wafer.
The new Schmidt-Boelter gauge now enables faster response and high sensitivity in applications requiring highly stable and accurately calibrated heat flux sensors.
These include all types of heat transfer research including use in aerodynamic wind tunnel testing and fire standard testing.
