Surface Transforms reports progress in Formula One brake testing programme and hires new director of sales and marketing.

British engineering firm Surface Transforms, the makers of high technology carbon ceramic friction materials, has completed another successful period of track testing of its brakes and discs with its Formula One team partner Last month, Surface Transforms signed a three-year agreement with the F1 team to assist it in developing its brake pads and discs

Under the terms of the deal, Surface Transforms provides exclusive development work with the team.

Using Surface Transforms' brakes the F1 partner was able to record excellent lap times during recent testing at an F1 racetrack in Europe.

The session provided Surface Transforms and the F1 team with valuable development data.

The technology and products can also be sold to other car racing markets, including Cart, the Indy Racing League and GT.

The Formula 1 brake and clutch market is estimated to be worth up to £7 million annually.

Surface Transforms also announces the appointment of Dr Geoff Gould as the Director of Sales and Marketing.

At Surface Transforms Geoff will be responsible for leading the sales drive in current and new business markets.

Geoff has more than 20 years' experience in the carbon fibre market.

He previously worked for four years at AlliedSignal as the UK-based Commercial Manager for Europe, working in markets including F1 and GT racing brakes, aircraft brakes, automotive parts and gas turbine engines.

Geoff was primarily responsible for the entry of AlliedSignal (now owned by Honeywell) into F1 motor sport.

In 2000, AlliedSignal carbon-carbon brakes, distributed by Brembo, were used by 11 of the 13 Formula One teams.

Before AlliedSignal, Geoff was Business Development Manager at RK Carbon Fibres Ltd, where over six years he was responsible for sales of carbon fibre products in the aircraft industry, and also gained qualific at BAe, Boeing and FAA.

At RK Carbon Fibres he handled direct sales of core carbon products in the UK, Germany, Eastern Europe and Japan.

Commenting on the appointment, Julio Faria, Managing Director said: "We are very fortunate to have hired one of the best marketing and sales talents in our business.

Geoff has great experience in our key markets which means he has an in depth understanding of our products and the people we need to sell to.".
