Surface Transforms has been commissioned by the US Air Force Research Laboratory to produce sample batches of advanced carbon fibre ceramic materials in a 12-month contract initially valued at $50,000 The initial sample batch of materials is expected to be delivered by the end of October

Surface Transforms has developed a unique process for transforming carbon materials into carbon-fibre-reinforced ceramic products that offer a number of advantages over traditional carbon materials, including durability, strength and weight saving.

It is currently supplying its materials to customers including a global supplier of aircraft braking systems, and to Roxel, a division of BAe Systems.

Julio Faria, Managing Director, commented: "Our business model is predicated on cementing long-term commercial relationships with companies and organisations in our key aerospace and automotive markets.

We are delighted to have received our first contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory and we hope, subject to the performance of our materials, to be working together on further revenue-producing programmes over the coming years".
