The announcement follows continued success for QuISS in both European market sectors.

In the automotive market QuISS has become recognised as the leading European supplier of vision systems for adhesive and sealant inspection using advanced, contour based algorithms.

This led DaimlerChrysler, Germany to recently appoint QuISS as its sole supplier.

The 100% inspection of adhesive beads is now an essential body-in-white process where reinforcing components are bonded to body structures to increase stiffness.

In assembly operations, such as direct glazing and in seam sealing and engine manufacture, similar demands exist to optimise adhesive/sealant application and ensure accurate, continuous and leak free joints are produced.

"QuISS's core technology of contour based algorithms is setting new standards in many industrial vision applications", comments Dr Andrew Pryce, Sigmavsion's Managing Director.

"This is an exciting opportunity for Sigmavision and QuISS to build on successes in continental Europe by offering the UK automotive industry proven solutions to inspect adhesive and sealant bead position, continuity and dimensions.

The modular design of these systems allows fixed inspection stations or mobile, robot mounted solutions to be offered depending on individual processes, working envelopes and cycle time constraints".

Unlike many vision algorithms that are based on absolute levels of grey scale, contour based algorithms compare the relative grey scale value from target and surrounding areas.

This results in reliable performance even in fluctuating light conditions that are common in industrial applications.

In the metal packing industry QuISS has recently developed solutions for beverage can end inspection that are able to cope with conveyer speeds of up to 3000 units per minute.

Pryce adds: "Given the UK presence of all the major beverage can producers, we are keen to offer these advanced solutions to avoid container leakage and ensure the quality of the contents.

These are achieved by online measurement of critical dimensions, such as rivet and score line, and the detection a range defects, such as scratches, dents and contamination, even in difficult areas like around the edge curl".
