Resistant enclosure for new control system
SEL powerCORE: new rugged, versatile substation control system for transmission or distribution.
The utility chose SEL, a worldwide leader in power systems protection, integration, and automation, to design, furnish, and install complete integrated systems using the IEC 61850 suite of protocols.
The scope of the project is the complete modernization of 30 distribution substations with voltage levels ranging from 13.8 kV to 138 kV.
SEL will upgrade Elektro's electric power system and existing SCADA interface; install new supervisory systems and panels; perform field installations, including new battery banks and rectifiers; integrate more than 500 SEL products, including protection, automation, and communications devices through IEC 61850; and retrofit old disconnect switches, circuit breakers, and transformers.
This award is believed to cover the largest number of substations to date in a single IEC 61850-based project.
The integrated systems draw from SEL's complete line of IEC 61850 products, software, engineering tools, and experience.
"Our experience with IEC 61850, our proven product line, our powerful engineering tools, and our professional systems designers and project managers will deliver a quality result, on time and on budget," says SEL president Edmund O.
