Servelec has been awarded a £1 million contract for a control room system at HMP Frankland High Security Prison, the first such system installed into an operational prison

Following the successful completion of the pilot development for the next generation of Prison control room systems, Servelec has been awarded a £1 million contract for an implementation at HMP Frankland High Security Prison.

This will be the first system installed into an operational prison.

If successful, Her Majesty's Prison Service (HMPS) have already negotiated a framework agreement with Servelec for other high security establishments.

The system initially code named 'Concept 2000' and renamed 'Panoptes', was developed in conjunction with HMPS to integrate the disparate systems currently installed in the modern prison environment.

The system provides an Establishment with all the information necessary to manage security through a single view.

Surveillance, communications and status information are combined and presented to the Operator, supplemented with decision support capability and full audit.

Key benefits include an improvement to the working environment for staff and the delivery of better quality, more efficient security management.

By providing a record of all activities within the Establishment, HMPS are able to review the effectiveness of contingency procedures and use the information for evidential and training purposes.

Already, other prison authorities from around the world, including Hong Kong, Northern Ireland and Scotland have shown a keen interest, with many already having visited the pilot implementation installed at the Prison Service College.

"We feel that the close working relationship Servelec has with HMPS has allowed Servelec to develop a first class product that is suitable for world-wide implementation", says Alan Stubbs, Managing Director of Servelec.
