CSE-Servelec of Sheffield has recently been awarded a contract to support a Scada system for Severn Trent Water at its treatment works in Homesford.

The system had not been supported by anyone since its installation by Tyco Systems approximately 8 months ago.

A solution was urgently required to safeguard the Scada system from faults and to ensure that the service would never be interrupted.

CSE-Servelec has already established a solid relationship with Severn Trent Water, through the successful implementation of similar support contracts at an additional 15 of its sites.

This first-hand experience of CSE-Servelec's work was sufficient recommendation of its reliability and expertise and encouraged Severn Trent to award it the contract for Homesford.

The Scada system consists of a network of Allen Bradley PLCs that monitor the pumping machinery and the membrane system that filters the impurities from the flow of water.

Information gathered from these PLCs is constantly analysed to ensure that Severn Trent's precise standards are maintained and their customers remain satisfied.

Severn Trent's commitment to quality is such that if this vital monitoring and control process is interrupted for any reason, thus preventing close surveillance of the works, the entire plant will be shut down.

It is therefore imperative in such situations to rectify the issue in the shortest time possible, thereby minimising the disruption and resulting costs.

The contract that CSE-Servelec has signed will initially cover 12 months and will entitle Severn Trent Water to request technical assistance for their Homesford plant on a 24-hour, 365-day basis.

Customers of Severn Trent Water will be reassured that they can continue to benefit from a water supply to their homes that is clean and of a consistently high quality.
