SIG Pack Systems has a new range of machinery and systems which produce a new type of resealable packaging that is ideal for foods and non-food items that need to be kept fresh after the initial opening.

The packaging is in the form of a plastic bag with a zip fastener along its top edge that can be simply opened and closed when the goods are required.

One early use is for processed cheese from which individual slices can be taken over a period of time.

SIG's extremely high-speed packaging machine, called the SIGHSF wrapper, applies the zip directly from a reel to the film material used to form the bag.

The packaging film is supplied by Pechiney Plastics Packaging and is a composite material to which high quality printing can be applied by rotary gravure process.

The plastic zipper material is from Mini-Grip/Zip-Pak.

The new SIG solution can be used instead of previous cold seal packs to provide a hermetically sealed package that can enhance both the appearance of the packaged product and the usefulness of the pack for the consumer.

The new system recently won the Gold Medal in the Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards hosted by the Flexible Packaging Association in the USA.
