In the second six months of the current fiscal year, sales in complete systems and in secondary packaging systems by SIG Pack Systems increased by 150% over the full year 2001.

In spite of widespread pessimism in the global manufacturing sector, packaging systems company SIG Pack Systems has announced that in the second six months of the current fiscal year, sales in complete systems and in secondary packaging systems increased by 150% over the full year 2001 This increase is in part attributed to a significant uptake in the company's new Top loading platform

Top loading packaging robots were originally developed by the company as long ago as 1993, but did not begin to generate widespread interest until 1997.

However, the past year has seen exponential growth in orders, with some 60% coming from the USA, 20% from central Europe and 20% from the UK and Scandinavia.

Sales in Britain are continuing to climb and the signs for 2002 remain positive.

About 80% of SIG TopLoader sales are coming from the food sector, where the machines are matching applications in packaging chocolate and biscuit products.

Pharmaceutical applications are also increasing, since the top loading technology introduces greater flexibility in both volumes and product diversity than traditional side loading machines.

SIG claims that it takes just fifteen minutes to change one of its TopLoaders for a new production run, compared with up to five hours for a side loader.

The company has several planned innovations it will reveal in the future.
