Ring switch keeps industrial networks running

A Sixnet product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 11, 2005

The ET-5RS Ethertrak real-time ring switch is billed as a breakthrough in industrial-grade Ethernet.

The ET-5RS Ethertrak real-time ring switch delivers reliability and performance through its ultrafast fault-tolerant network redundancy and other features that are essential in critical real-time systems.

The ET-5RS provides all the capabilities needed to keep networks up and running, through features like traffic prioritisation and real-time fault-tolerant rings.

Therefore, network utilisation is improved, delivery of real-time data is assured, and priority assignments can be set by the user.

The real-time rings are self-configurable and run without the complex configuration steps required by other alternatives.

They provide a recovery time of less than 30ms plus 5ms per hop and allow over 50 switches to be connected in a ring.

These features are ideal for real-time, deterministic control and distributed systems.

Sixnet switches offer reliability and long-term support with over 1Mh mean time between failures, a 20-year support and service policy, free field-installable upgrades, plus more.

In addition, the product is UL, CSA, and CE certified, has marine and hazardous ratings, MIL-STD-1275 surge protection and a -40 to +85C operation temperature range.

Sixnet switches have already been proven in many military, outdoor and marine applications.

There are several real-time ring switch models available for all types of needs.

They offer different combinations of copper and fibre ports, for connections up to 40km or more.

The switches can be ordered preconfigured for true plug and play operation or field configured with an easy to use software wizard.
