System Sensor Europe has announced the new 6200 family of intelligent and conventional beam detectors.

The transmitter and receiver are contained in one compact unit measuring 195 x 155 x 150mm; three sizes of reflector plates are available to facilitate installation over a range of 10m to 100m.

The 6200 is intended for the protection of large open spaces, from 2.5 to 12m high, such as shopping precincts, conference centres warehouses, atriums, historic buildings, churches and cinemas.

In historic buildings, a beam detector is often the preferred choice as it is visually unobtrusive.

With a maximum coverage of 1800 sq.

m, installation costs can be significantly less than for point detectors.

The 6200 operates on the obscuration principle using visible red light generated by a laser diode; an alarm is triggered when the returned light falls below a pre-set threshold.

The unit has a laser boost facility, used during the commissioning stage to make the alignment process simple.

Additionally, an array of LEDs provide a simple go - no-go alignment confirmation; the reflector is centralised to the matrix array to ensure maximum reflection of the actual light beam.

The unit's sensitivity is switch selectable, with settings ranging from the most sensitive, giving the most rapid response and suitable for use in areas subject to rapid air movement to the least sensitive for use in areas where dust build up can be expected.
