Tyre pressure monitor on the race track

A Stack product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 23, 2009

Stack has announced a batteryless Tyre Pressure and Temperature Monitoring System (TPMS), based on patented SAW sensor technology and aimed at the motorsport market.

The TPMS can operate at temperatures up to 150C, with update rates from 1Hz up to 40Hz.

Smaller than a 15mm cube and weighing less than 10 grams, the SAW sensor can be mounted on the back of a valve stem.

Key features: highest temperature available up to 170C; lightest sensor available is less than 10g; smallest sensor available is 14 x 8mm; sampling rate from 1Hz to 40Hz; measures both air pressure and temperature; one to four channels from a single interrogator module; 0-45psi with 0.1psi resolution (other ranges available); CAN bus output; and various mounting options (wheel rim, valve mount and so on).

Accurate tyre pressures are a proven performance enhancer, delivering consistent performance advantages in all levels of motorsport.

Dynamic tyre pressure monitoring while out on the track allows a team to optimise tyre performance over the whole lap and whole run.

Stack's batteryless system is designed specifically with the demanding requirements of motorsport in mind.
