Web-enabled system checks sensor status

Syrona Systems has brought real-time monitoring of critical environmental and security alarms to a wider European audience with the launch of sensorProbe from Uptime Devices.
Developed with networking and ease of use in mind, the sensorProbe is a 0U device measuring just 4 x 2.5 x 1.5in.
It supports up to two external environmental sensors such as temperature and humidity and can send SNMP alarm traps to all popular network management software.
Additional alerts can be emailed to staff automatically via an external SMTP server.
The sensorProbe is an 'intelligent' device and includes its own onboard web server with graphing capabilities.
This means that no additional software is required to view reports and that access control it platform independent, making it viewable from anywhere on the net.
Individual sensors can be chosen from an array of options including water, humidity, security and airflow etc.
The sensorProbe automatically 'detects' which type of sensor is attached and by using standard RJ45 connectors and CAT 5 cabling, can even make use of the customer's own cabling to position the sensors.
Through the use of its user-friendly web interface, multiple alarm thresholds can be setup to define the severity of a situation and also to configure onboard security, including networking parameters such as the destinations for the two independent snmp traps.
Steve Ashley-Brian, Syrona System's Business Development Manager, explains: "As IT Managers continue to work under the challenge of increasingly stringent service levels, they are keen to adopt more cost effective and flexible solutions to be their eyes and ears throughout the physical infrastructure.
They also need to be able to monitor and control these devices in exactly the same way they do any other 'networked' equipment.
This then is the value of products such as the sensorProbe, proactively monitoring conditions before they become service affecting.
We are therefore pleased to be able to offer this solution to our customer base as it perfectly compliments our involvement in service level management".
