Drive protection for food and packaging

Optimum drive protection for food processing and packaging machines.

The need to minimise expensive downtime through machinery breakdown is particularly acute in the high production food processing, electronics and pharmaceutical industries The rigidity of drive components determines the machine's ability to deliver speed and high precision

However, in the event of an overload, this rigidity needs to be offset by dependable safety couplings which rapidly disengage driving and driven forces.

R+W's patented safety couplers are absolutely backlash-free, torsionally stiff, have a low moment of inertia and are characterised by their compact and simple design.

Now, the range is available in stainless steel, extending the scope of this proven design to include applications where hygiene is paramount.

The new range, available in the UK from Tandler Precision, has a torque rating of 0.2 - 1500Nms and a shaft diameter range from 4mm - 70mm.

Transmittable torque is infinitely adjustable by turning a small nut.

The options are single position and multi-position re-engagement after 45°, 60°, 90° or 120°; load holding which permits minimal rotation and then maintains contact between drive and driven faces without disconnecting the drive; and free-wheeling which ensures permanent separation in the event of an overload.

All R+W safety couplings were developed for highly dynamic drives and are able to transmit torque even under extreme vibrational loads.

They guarantee optimum protection for the drive by high speed disconnection within 1 - 3msecs.

Thanks to the frictional clamp connection and patented operating principle, all R+W couplings are completely backlash-free.

The degressive characteristics of the disc spring developed by the manufacturer for safety applications brings the additional advantages of short actuation times, low residual friction and low wear.

Manufactured to ISO 9001, the new R+W stainless steel safety coupling range is available in four basic designs to suit a variety of applications including those which involve a timing belt or chain wheel.

Other models provide a clamping hub and pre-tensioned tapered bushings.

The final option is the press-fit design, available in a torque range of 4.5 to 150Nms, which is ideal for applications with poor accessibility. Request a free brochure from Tandler Precision ...
