Getting to grips with handling sacks

A Tatem Industrial Automation product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 27, 2006

A novel sack gripper is ideal for handling sacks containing materials such as aggregates, grain, sand, potatoes and granules.

TIA's new sack gripper is ideal for handling sacks containing materials such as aggregates, grain, sand, potatoes and granules.

These types of material tend to be difficult to handle with traditional vacuum grippers as they are very unstable in the sack and exhibit a fluid like behaviour which can cause the sacks or bags to sag, breaking the vacuum hold.

Instead TIA's sack gripper fully encloses the sack and maintains its shape during high speed handling.

The gripper head is available with matching conveyor section in which the gripper fingers close between the conveyor rollers, allowing them to encompass the sack.

The sack gripper fits most robots and gantries.

Pneumatic control is simple.

It is fully adjustable, handling a wide range of sacks and bags.

Various conveyor lengths and sizes are available.

It also features side and top pressure plate options.

Robust construction allows use in dirty or dusty environments and powder coated and plated parts prevent corrosion.

Stainless steel and other custom versions are also available.
