Tech Ed Concepts has awarded $40,000 of KeyCreator CAD software and training materials to the 12 applicants for the 2005 John McKenney/SME Chapter 124 Engineering Scholarship.

Tech Ed Concepts has awarded $40,000 (commercial value) of KeyCreator CAD software and training materials to the 12 applicants, and the winner, of the 2005 John McKenney/SME Chapter 124 Engineering Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior pursuing a career in engineering.

Tech Ed Concepts (TEC) has been active in software donations with this SME Chapter (Society of Manufacturing Engineers) for several years.

With TEC's donation, each applicant and their school will receive a seat of KeyCreator.

The winner receives a $1000 scholarship from SME Chapter 124, and a seat of KeyCreator with over $200 in training materials from TEC.

This year's scholarship winner, Robert Chase from Keene High School in New Hampshire, plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to pursue a degree in engineering.

With the added donation from TEC, Chase will have the opportunity to gain real-world CAD experience using KeyCreator before he enters post-secondary education.

The student-applicants and their schools will also now have the chance to learn the commercial version of an industrial CAD software package; one that has been used by worldwide industrial companies like Nike, BF Goodrich, Boeing and Seagate Technology.

KeyCreator is distributed to educators, schools, and students by TEC nationally.

KeyCreator introduces the powerful tools of CAD and NC to students.

With KeyCreator, students have the opportunity to learn 2D drafting, wireframe, solid modelling, surfacing, direct editing and NC applications in one quick and easy to learn package.

This integration, coined "hybrid modelling", is the best combination of tools for teaching and learning CAD.

Design engineers worldwide use KeyCreator for diverse applications in aerospace, automotive, consumer products, medical products, instrumentation, machine design, electronic packaging, reverse engineering and more.

When interviewed, Skip Marsh - SME Chapter 124 Chairperson-Elect had this to say: "Our scholarship committee wishes to thank TEC for the wonderful donation of 13 Seats of KeyCreator software and training materials".

"In making this donation, SME Chapter 124 and TEC can help students excel in their first year of college and bridge the big gap of learning with real world commercial software".

"This software, which is also placed in each applicant's school by TEC, has helped many students who would not otherwise receive an award directly".

"It has been a great pleasure working with TEC to bring this technology to our future; our students".

The President of SME, Gene Nelson, attended the awards dinner in May and made mention many times on how great it is to see Tech Ed Concepts work so close with a chapter like SME 124.

The scholarship is named for John I McKenney, who during his 12-year SME membership held Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer Positions in both Chapter 124 and the New England Region 5.

McKenney was a professional engineer who openly offered his skill and energy to the education of future manufacturing engineers; he passed away from cancer in 1995.

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers serves its members and the international manufacturing community through the advancement of professionalism, knowledge and learning.

SME Chapter 124 was chartered on 24th February 1955.
