Braided sleevings offer good abrasion resistance
Tyco Electronics has added Rayflex expandable braids to its Raychem range of overprotection products for electrical harnesses and fluid management systems.
Kinkisharyo, a leading manufacturer of rolling stock, will use the company's Raychem ZH100A zero-halogen product for the project.
With low-fire hazard properties and small size, ZH100A is especially suited to light rail vehicles, where safety, weight, durability and size are major considerations.
It offers excellent material handling characteristics and ancillary weight savings due to a smaller bundle diameter, that can dramatically reduce conduit and cable tray size requirements.
Production of the VTA cars is a co-ordinated worldwide effort.
The Raychem ZH 100A wire, is produced in the United Kingdom, sold in the United States and then shipped to Japan, where the cars are constructed.
Finally, the cars will return to the United States for final assembly and shipment to the VTA.
"This innovative product was chosen because of its many benefits over traditional wire and cable constructions," said Gary Caporizzo, area sales manager for Tyco Electronics - Wire, Harnessing and Protection Division, and he added "The lightweight and durable wire can save as much as 230kg per rail car, helping clients meet weight and size constraints.
It also fulfills the smoke and toxicity criteria set by transit agencies and industry consultants." Through its Raychem brand, Tyco Electronics has provided wire and cable to the rail and mass transit industry for more than 30 years.
The company's wire and cable products are presently installed on over 10,000 rail cars worldwide and this is its third contract with Kinkisharyo for zero-halogen wire in the North American market. Request a free brochure from Tyco Electronics - Wire, Harness and Protection ...
