Nickel shadow masks are subjected to computerised coordinate measuring as part of Tecan Components' statistical process control system to produce QA approved parts for immediate use

Used in a wide range of selective vacuum chamber deposition processes, such as gold and silver plating on silicon, the components are despatched as proven 'fit-for-purpose' batches, suitable for delivery direct to the customer's production environment All specified variables, such as aperture size, tolerance and thickness, are accurately measured and logged ensuring recipients can by-pass their own detailed goods-in inspection

Time and costs are saved, and traceable quality control with hard copy back-up documents, is assured.

The masks offer significant advantages over traditional types, being far more durable and accurate.

Using electroforming techniques, the company is able to produce tightly costed sheet masks which out-perform traditional photo-etched molybdenum which has limits on how small, or defined, apertures may be.

The method allows the production of far tighter tolerances, so that greater density designs with higher accuracy aperture edges are cost-effectively produced.

So robust is the Tecan mask, that it will typically withstand the harsh post-deposition cleaning process for up to ten times longer than other masks - significantly reducing the need for replacements.

Single masks, and multi-mask sets are available to meet the individual needs of custom designs Shadow masks are used to fabricate a wide number of simple and complex micro-engineered electronic components and products, for single and multi-layer applications in industrial, aerospace, automotive, medical and pharmaceutical markets.

For example, evaporation-depositing contacts onto quartz crystal oscillator tracks and automotive thermocouples.

They are also used for the fabrication of similar components onto substrates such as silicon or glass and for the deposition of a wide range of other surface finishes.

The systems cost-effectively cater for development, prototyping, small, medium and large-scale production applications - affording consistently accurate results.
