Techni Measure has launched a new specialised strain gauge range designed for measurement of strain in applications where temperatures of up to 800C occur, such as in engine cylinders

Techni Measure has launched a new specialised strain gauge range designed for measurement of strain in applications where temperatures of up to 800C occur, such as in engine cylinders, exhaust manifolds, heated turbines and field sites for long periods.

The sensing element of the strain gauge is constructed in special alloy to withstand the high temperatures and comes with a base for bonding of the gauge using spot welding attachment techniques.

Five versions are available with 8mm and 16mm gauge lengths to cover different applications.

The AWM is designed for measurement at up to 300C, whereas the AWH has a full bridge circuit board and can withstand temperatures up to 650C for dynamic use, or up to 600C for static measurement.

The newest model AWMD operates to the higher temperature of 800C in dynamic measurement mode.

Gauge resistance is 120 ohms with a gauge factor of typically 2 to 4.2, and the device is rated for fatigue over a million cycles with a strain limit of up to +/-10,000 x 10-6 strain.

The gauge is supplied with a 2 metre MI insulated cable and options are available for ground earth, compression fitting, small junction construction, narrow 3mm width gauge base, rounded shaped element and anti-vibration construction.
