Load cells keep aerosol can weigher
accurate
Northern Technical Services' special high speed checkweigher for checking the contents of aerosol cans uses a Tedea-Huntleigh model 240 damped load cell
Northern Technical Services have pioneered the development of a special high speed checkweigher specifically for checking the contents of aerosol cans This particular application sets a number of challenging demands on the design of both the weigher and ancillary equipment, mostly of a mechanical nature

Excellent overload capacity from new load cell
Tedea-Huntleigh Europe have designed a highly cost-effective, weld-sealed stainless steel, single point load cell which can withstand all the rigours of use in harsh environments.
The NTS300 checkweigher is used to detect and reject under filled aerosol cans and at speeds of 60 cans a minute, the unit can weigh typical 100g contents to within +/-1/2 g.
Even at the top speed of 300 cans a minute, impressive accuracies of +/-2g are readily achievable.
One of the key requirements for successful high speed weighing is to ensure that the product being weighed is presented onto the weigher in a smooth 'jolt free' manner.
Aerosol cans are particularly tricky to handle in a repeatable way.
Traditional checkweigher transport belts are prone to accelerated wear from the edges of the cans and also present a serious static problem in such an environment.
The NTS unit uses special chains and the company have developed a 'patent applied for ' drive adjustment system.
In addition the guides, before and after the weigher, are fitted on shock absorbers to ensure smooth transportation of the cans.
At the heart of the weigher is an OIML approved 5 kg capacity Tedea-Huntleigh model 240 damped load cell.
The 240 uses well tried and tested damping technology which offers exceptional weighing speed and long term load cell reliability and integrity.
The control electronics, supplied by South Wales based Sensor Techniques, provide a wide range of user options and allow rapid line calibration for different size cans.
The NTS300 provides a highly cost effective and robust solution for weighing aerosol cans and currently the company are developing a fully flameproof version of the checkweigher.
