UMTS monitoring capability for all
interfaces
Already successful for conformance testing and monitoring of diverse 2G and 2.5G network equipment, the Tektronix K1297-G20 is one of the first tools to support the development of UMTS equipment
Tektronix has announced a new Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems (UMTS) network monitoring solution As mobile networks evolve to offer enhanced voice and data services, mobile network operators and equipment manufacturers need monitoring solutions that support third-generation (3G) standards such as UMTS, one of the most widely used standards for 3G implementation

Portable field measurements in wireless networks
Tektronix has announced a new compact, modular instrument, the NetTek base station field tool, designed to simplify routine field installation and maintenance measurement tasks in wireless networks.
To stay competitive in the fast-paced wireless industry, they need monitoring solutions that are easy to use, speed time to market, and provide multiple capabilities with one instrument.
Already a successful platform for conformance testing and monitoring of diverse second-generation (2G and 2.5G) network equipment, the Tektronix K1297-G20 is one of the first tools to support the development of UMTS equipment.
Now it provides UMTS monitoring capability to address each of these needs and to offer an overall view of the actual performance level of the mobile network.

"Tektronix is dedicated to providing a portfolio of products for mobile network operators and equipment manufacturers who require a variety of capabilities to test evolving global communications networks," said Johannes Schaedel, vice president, Mobile Business Unit, Tektronix, "While other test and measurement companies offer instruments with UMTS monitoring capabilities, the Tektronix solution provides customers with an instrument that can monitor GSM, GPRS and UMTS network elements and view them simultaneously on one screen." UMTS monitoring solution enables faster, easier interpretation of network elements With the Tektronix UMTS monitoring solution, operators and equipment manufacturers can view a detailed presentation of protocols for all UMTS interfaces (lub, lur, lu-CS, lu-PS) in one window.
This provides an easy-to-use tool that allows the user to detect errors much faster, decreasing test time and speeding time to market.
In addition, operators and equipment manufacturers can monitor UMTS, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and General Packet Radio Systems (GPRS) protocols simultaneously, allowing them to monitor the existing systems while deploying next-generation networks.
The UMTS monitoring solution decodes all layers and protocols based on AAL5 (ATM Adaptation Layer Number 5) and most protocols based on AAL2 (ATM Adaptation Layer Number 2).
AAL5 is the layer directly above the physical ATM layer that transports signalling data or packet-oriented data.
The AAL2 layer's function is to transfer real-time speech over an ATM network.
The K1297-G20 is a full-featured, compact protocol analyser that can be configured for a wide range of protocols.
It supports multi-channel and multi-port protocol testing and incorporates a broad selection of conformance test suites.
The existing GPRS-related features available with the K1297-G20 have made Tektronix the number one supplier of GPRS signalling protocol test equipment. Request a free brochure from Tektronix ...
