Real-time oscilloscope performance
unleashed

The Tektronix CSA7404 is the first and only real-time digital oscilloscope to specifically address the design of high-speed electrical and optical systems with data rates of up to 2.5Gb/sec

Tektronix has announced a new class of communications signal analysers: the CSA7000 Series The flagship product in the range, the CSA7404, is the first and only real-time digital oscilloscope to specifically address the design of high-speed electrical and optical systems with data rates of up to 2.5 Gigabits per second (Gbit/s)

The series introduces additional integrated capabilities - an optical reference receiver, clock recovery and serial triggering - that are firsts in the industry and provide single-connection convenience and unprecedented versatility.

The implementation of Metropolitan Area Networks and the hierarchical structure of the SONET/SDH standards continue to drive focus on new communication equipment designs with tributary rates of up to 2.5 Gbit/s (OC-48) even as telecommunication data rates extend to 40 Gbit/s.

In addition, designers are challenged to implement Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, and emerging standards such as InfiniBand in optical and electrical datacom applications at unparalleled data rates of up to 2.5 Gbit/s.

"Aimed directly at the emerging infrastructure of Metropolitan Area Networks, the breakthrough CSA7000 Series is the industry's first and only real-time Communications Signal Analyser", said Craig Overhage, vice-president, Instruments Business Unit, Tektronix, : "For an application in which world-class banner specifications are not enough, the combination of the industry's fastest performance and the communications-focused capabilities of the CSA7000 Series enables our customers to more efficiently and easily design and debug high-speed optical and electrical communications equipment." CSA7404 Is first available real-time oscilloscope for 2.5 Gbit/s data rates With industry-leading 4 Gigahertz (GHz) bandwidth and a 20 Gigasamples per second (GS/s) sample rate, the CSA7404 meets bandwidth requirements for 2.5 Gbit/s measurements.

Breakthrough features, such as an integrated optical/electrical (O/E) converter and a library of optical reference receiver (ORR) filters, provide the frequency response necessary for compliance testing.

This built-in combination eliminates the need to calibrate external O/E accessories.

Broad spectral response allows users to address long- and short-wavelength applications without reconfiguration.

Two other standard features, clock recovery and a 32-bit serial trigger, are also integrated.

Clock recovery extracts a clock from the user's serial data stream, providing single-connection convenience while producing a robust eye pattern for compliance testing.

The 32-bit serial trigger provides a powerful new tool for navigating through serial data streams and isolating pattern-dependent effects.

The CSA7404 delivers unmatched versatility in compliance mask testing, allowing users to select from among optical and electrical standards, such as ANSI T1.102, ITU-T G.703, SDH/SONET, Fibre Channel, Ethernet, InfiniBand, USB, Serial ATA and IEEE 1394, at rates up to 2.5 Gb/s, without any hardware changes.

The second member of the new series, the CSA7154, gives customers who don't need the blazing performance of the CSA7404 an alternative model.

With the same integrated ORR, clock recovery, and serial trigger as the top-line model, the CSA7154 is still a feature-rich instrument.

This analyser's 1.5 GHz electrical bandwidth and 20 GS/s sample rate make it well suited for development and verification use at data rates up to 1.25 Gbit/s.

With 1.5 GHz bandwidth and 20 GS/s sample rate, the TDS7154 digital phosphor oscilloscope (DPO) mirrors the electrical bandwidth of its sister CSA7154 analyser.

This expansion of the TDS7000 DPO family and introduction of the CSA7000 Series is nicely complemented by new software options that deliver extensibility to both offerings.

Option Communication Pulse (CP2) adds communications pulse compliance measurements to the CSA7000 Series, as well as the TDS7000 Series digital phosphor oscilloscopes.

Option Serial Mask (SM) and Option Serial Trigger (ST) impart additional capabilities upon the TDS7000 Series DPOs.

Option SM provides serial mask testing and clock recovery features for electrical signals and addresses data rate from 1.5 Mbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s; option ST provides serial triggering capability. Request a free brochure from Tektronix ...
