Smaller, more economic switch mode power supplies

A Schneider Electric product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 14, 2000

The latest switch mode power supplies from Telemecanique are the smallest of their type currently available, and all models are exceptionally competitively priced

Big savings on valuable panel space are easily achieved with the new range of compact high-performance switch mode power supplies from Telemecanique, a brand of Schneider Electric.

Products in the range, which include units for operation from both single- and three-phase power sources, are the smallest of their type currently available, and all models are exceptionally competitively priced.

All power supplies in the range are designed to meet the needs of even the most demanding industrial applications, but a unique under-voltage trip feature makes them particularly suitable for use in conjunction with programmable controllers.

The under-voltage trip ensures that if the output voltage falls below a preset value, even momentarily, the power supply shuts down instantly.

This guarantees that PLC inputs are never presented with signals representing an indeterminate state between on and off - a situation that can lead to potentially dangerous malfunctions.

The versatility of these supplies is enhanced by circuitry which automatically adjusts to suit voltages in the range 85V to 264V for single phase models, and 360V to 550V for three-phase models.

This allows the units to be used in virtually any country of the world without adjustment - a major convenience for manufacturers of equipment for export.

All models include comprehensive protection against overload and short-circuit, and a manual reset option, to aid commissioning, is available on certain units in the range.

LED indicators provide instant confirmation of supply status.

Output voltage for all types can be easily adjusted between 100% and 120% of its nominal value, allowing easy compensation for voltage drops in the wiring between the power supply and the load.

Single-phase units in Telemecanique's switch mode power supply range, with nominal 24V DC outputs, are available in ratings from 48W to 240W, while the power ratings of three-phase models, also with 24V DC outputs, extend up to 960W.

In addition, single-phase power supplies with 12V or 48V outputs are available in versions with ratings from 72W to 240W.

This new range of switch mode power supplies complements Telemecanique's existing range of filtered/rectified power supplies which are an economical choice for applications where output voltage regulation is not needed.

Between them, these two ranges cover virtually every industrial application, and allow Telemecanique to offer one of the most comprehensive industrial power supply families currently available.
