Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 23, 2001

In the first nine months of 2001, consolidated sales for Schneider Electric increased by 5.9%, equivalent to a sales growth of 2.3% on a constant structural and currency basis

In the first nine months of 2001, consolidated sales for Schneider Electric increased by 5.9%, compared with the same period last year, to 7.4 billion Euros (£4.5 billion).

This is equivalent to a sales growth of 2.3% on a constant structural and currency basis.

Despite the year-on-year increase, however, sales in the last quarter have been growing at a slower pace than in the first half of the year and, taken alone, third-quarter sales are virtually unchanged from the levels achieved in 2000.

In Europe, excluding France, sales to September 30th totalled 2.56 billion Euros (£1.6 billion) and showed a marked increase of 12.1% (5.3% on a constant structural and currency basis) over the corresponding period of last year.

The best sales results in this area have come from Southern Europe, including Spain and Italy, and from Eastern Europe.

In France, sales figures are now comparable with those achieved last year, while there has been a downturn in North American performance, which reflects the slowdown in the region's construction market and industrial investment.

In the rest of the world, Schneider Electric sales have grown rapidly, with an increase of 14.7% (18.4% on a constant structural and currency basis) for the period to 30th September.

With its brands, Merlin Gerin, Modicon, Sarel, Square D and Telemecanique, Schneider Electric offers a full range of products and services for the electrical supply industry, equipment manufacturers, panel builders, OEMs, contractors, specifiers, and end users of electrical equipment in the commercial and industrial sectors.
