Versatility and compact design on safety relays

A Schneider Electric product story

Two additions to a range of safety relays include a model which is half the width of most other types, yet provides three safety outputs rated at a full 6A

The two latest additions to the popular Preventa range of safety relays from Telemecanique mark the introduction of new safety products which combine versatility with compact construction and ease of use.

Between them, the Preventa XPS-AF and XPS-AK relays, both of which are suitable for use in appropriately designed Category 4 control systems in accordance with EN954-1, cover almost every application, eliminating the need for users to stock and work with several different types of relay.

At just 22.5mm wide, Preventa XPS-AF relays are half the width of most other types, yet they provide three safety outputs rated at a full 6A, and are an ideal choice for monitoring emergency-stop circuits and limit switches.

The 45mm wide XPS-AK relays are also suitable for limit switch and emergency-stop applications but can, in addition, be used with four-wire safety mats and type 4 light curtains.

Like the XPS-AF relays, the XPS-AK types provide three 6A-rated safety outputs.

However, they additionally offer a single volt-free signalling output, and four solid state outputs which make it easy for the relays to be used in conjunction with programmable controllers to provide comprehensive plant monitoring and diagnostic facilities.

The relays feature large-capacity screw terminals capable of accepting cables up to 2.5mm2, and ease of wiring is ensured by the provision of an outline circuit diagram which is permanently printed on the relay front panel.

Preventa XPS-AF and XPS-AK relays are available in versions for use on 24V AC/DC supplies, and XPS-AK types are also offered in versions for operation from 110V, 120V and 230V AC supplies.

All versions have an IP20 protection rating, and are equally suitable for DIN-rail or baseplate mounting.
