Sponsorship from Schneider Electric is helping Ben Winrow who, at just 16, is the youngest driver in motor sport's Caterham Academy Championship to achieve a leading position in the competition.

Sponsorship from Schneider Electric is helping Ben Winrow who, at just 16, is the youngest driver in motor sport's Caterham Academy Championship to achieve a leading position in this hotly contested competition Winrow most recently won the second round of the competition, which was held in very wet conditions, by a margin of 0.6 seconds and, at the present time, he leads the championship by 3 points

"Without support from Schneider Electric, it would have been impossible for Ben even to take part in the championship, let alone achieve these fantastic results", said Paul Winrow, of Stratos Control Systems, the company which garages and maintains the race vehicle.

"It really is heartening when an organisation like Schneider Electric is prepared to put real effort - and cash - into supporting not only the electrical industry, but the community as a whole".

Sponsorship is provided by Schneider Electric, in line with the organisation's commitment to supporting the development of young people around the world.

In Ben Winrow's case, the sponsorship money assists with the running and maintenance costs associated with the racing car, which competes in Team Schneider Electric colours.

The Caterham Academy Championship is for Caterham Seven cars, which are required to have 1.6-litre, 16-valve engines, road tyres, and a minimum weight of 615kg.

Team Schneider Electric driver, Ben Winrow, weighs in at just 55kg and is, therefore, required to carry at least 40kg of lead or fuel ballast in order to meet the minimum weight requirements.

The championship consists of eight rounds, which are held at major racing circuits throughout the UK, including Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Mallory Park.

The next round takes place at Castle Coombe in Wiltshire, and Ben is looking forward to competing on this extremely fast circuit, where he will be approaching most of the corners at speeds in excess of 100mph.
