Checking the level of water or aqueous liquids in bottles and similar containers is a straightforward task with the new Osiris XUM range of photoelectric sensors.

Checking the level of water or aqueous liquids in bottles and similar containers - even if they are moving rapidly, for example, on a conveyor belt - is a straightforward task with the new Osiris XUM range of photoelectric sensors from Telemecanique Switching speeds up to 1kHz are possible, and the sensors are suitable for use with most types of opaque plastic container, as well as transparent containers of all types

Osiris XUM sensors are designed for through-beam operation, with a typical spacing between transmitter and receiver of 100 to 200mm.

The units use an infra-red beam, which has a wavelength matched to the maximum absorption frequency of water molecules.

This makes the new sensors suitable for detecting not only aqueous liquids, but also any product which contains water including, for example, adhesives, ice cream, and even moist tissues.

A further benefit is that infra-red beams of this wavelength will easily penetrate most types of plastic material used in the packaging industry, even when the material is opaque to visible light.

The sensors feature potentiometer adjustment for sensitivity, complemented by stability and output status LEDs which make it easy for users to select the optimum operating point for their particular application.

The solid-state PNP output, which is fully protected against overload and short circuit, can be set for either light or dark switching.

Osiris XUM photosensors from Telemecanique have an IP65 protection rating, and feature shatter-resistant polycarbonate lenses, making them ideal for demanding applications in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.

The units are precabled for ease of installation, and are intended for use with DC supplies in the range 12 to 24V.
