Power management system takes centre stage
Schneider Electric will unveil the latest developments in its innovative power management system, PowerLogic, at this year's Nemex show.
Schneider Electric will unveil the latest developments in its innovative power management system, PowerLogic, at this year's Nemex show with a stand devoted to showing users the potential in properly managing energy usage.
This includes launching two new digital power meters, the PM700 and PM800.
The PM700 replaces analogue meters and provides basic remote monitoring with various options including Modbus communications.
The PM800 is intended for more complex installations, found in larger industrial and commercial plants that require greater levels of information.
PowerLogic is the industry's most comprehensive and sophisticated power management system able to meet any metering or monitoring requirement.
Intelligent components of an electrical distribution system can be integrated enabling users to reduce downtime, cut energy costs and help maintain power quality.
Developed as a plug-and-play system, PowerLogic provides real time status, energy, power quality and includes forecasting.
Because it is based on web-enabled technology, the system transfers information rapidly allowing staff to keep abreast of impending problems.
PowerLogic systems are available in three different levels giving users the exact information they need.
Each of these levels can be combined, or can operate as stand alone functions, further enhancing the flexibility of PowerLogic.
The flagship product is the PowerLogic Power Server, a combined web server, data concentrator and communications gateway that enables PowerLogic electrical network management systems to be monitored with standard web browser software, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
This system gives users the ability to monitor an electrical supply system via the Internet from almost anywhere in the world.
Users benefit from their ability to easily determine the power network's complete status, allowing energy consumption to be managed and reduced.
Consumption costs, for example, can be allocated to departmental budgets as part of energy monitoring and targeting schemes.
PowerLogic enables users to quickly detect and diagnose power quality problems such as harmonics issues and power disturbances.
The status of circuit breakers and other equipment, such as drives and contactors, can be monitored to detect signs of trouble.
By using proper monitoring, preventive maintenance can be undertaken at an early stage avoiding costly downtime.
The PowerLogic system provides a wide variety of standard and user-defined colour graphics and reports for power quality analysis including tables, barcharts, trend plots, graphs, visual alarms and meters.
Single line diagrams, site plans and equipment drawings can also be incorporated.
The user can configure the interface quickly and easily within minutes.
Devices such as power meters and circuit breakers can be connected directly to a PowerLogic system via Modbus (RS485) or remotely via modem.
PowerLogic uses standard Ethernet TCP/IP protocol, enabling access over a company intranet or the Internet.
Scaleable system architecture allows a system to be built up with devices being added to match needs or when budgets allow.
Schneider Electric will be on stand L6 during Nemex 2004 at the UK National Exhibition Centre from 30th March to 1st April 2004 ready to discuss applications and demonstrate the benefits of a PowerLogic system.
