Schneider Electric is officially the Best Performing Supply Only Kit Framework Supplier for the fourth quarter between October and December of 2003, according to United Utilities, to which Schneider provides variable speed drives The award is based on five criteria, including the prompt supply of information, the delivery of equipment to site and the support provided to contractors

A panel comprising United Utilities', MWH PM Engineering Service Provider and three main construction framework contractors: KMI Water, HMB Alliance and Galliford Costain JV, scored the suppliers and voted against the criteria to give the award to Schneider Electric.

The award follows Schneider Electric winning a contract, against stiff competition, to become the sole supplier of variable speed drives to United Utilities for a term of three years.

The contract includes supplying the complete Altivar range from Telemecanique, a brand of Schneider Electric, from 0.18 to 500kW and represents a guaranteed spend of GBP1.6million over the term of the contract.

The majority of the drives will be used for a wide variety of pump applications although some fan applications are also included in the programme.

United Utilities has 374 major and about 250 minor works projects to carry out as part of its GBP3billion asset management programme in the North West.

The contract also covers pre-sales technical advice and post-installation maintenance.
