Recognising the need for inexpensive operator interfaces for simple machine control, Telemecanique, a brand of Schneider Electric, has unveiled the Magelis XBT R range of compact HMI displays.

High visibility screens have controllable backlighting in red, amber or green.

Options of one to four lines of five to 20 characters and up to 17mm text height cover a broad range of needs with clear legibility.

Scrolling text makes it easy to view and read lengthy messages.

Clear keypad navigation aids the operator with up to 12 function keys that also provide 0-9 data entry.

An offline simulator allows programs to be fully tested prior to installation and applications can be protected with a transfer password, to prevent unauthorised copying.

Also in the security features are three levels of password protection.

For exporting OEMs there is multilingual support, with numerous fonts provided.

Installation is simple and quick, needing no tools and using quick-fit spring clips.

Customisation is also possible using a flush mounting kit that is also ideal for food processing applications.

Communications via Modbus or Uni-Telway links enable direct communication with all Telemecanique Modicon PLCs, as well as with Zelio Logic intelligent relays, Altivar variable speed drives and TeSys Model U motor starters.

Indeed, when the Magelis XBT R is connected to Modicon PLCs, it is possible to save the cost and panel space of a 24V DC power supply by taking power directly from the PLC via a communications cable.

Alarms can be set and alarm printouts taken.

The Magelis XBT R is directly compatible with the current range of Magelis XBT H, XBT P models.

Users of these units can also benefit from automatic application conversion within the configuration software, while gaining 50-60% additional panel space by fitting the new XBT R model.

The XBT R display units conform to CE, UL, C-Tick and CSA standards with an IP65 front panel rating.

They are also approved to marine standards, and so the display units are suitable for use in harsh and damp environments.
