Integrated motor starter provides power switching, isolation and disconnection, short circuit protection and wide bandwidth electronic overload protection in one compact unit.

Telemecanique has launched the Tesys model U integrated motor starter This smart, but simple to use starter, provides power switching, isolation and disconnection, short circuit protection and wide bandwidth electronic overload protection in one compact 45mm wide unit

The Tesys model U starter controller comes in a 12 or 32A base, direct online or reversing, into which one of three types of overload module can be plugged to complete the assembly.

A variety of different auxiliary contacts can also be added to the basic assembly without requiring any extra space.

The standard overload provides protection against short circuits, thermal overloads, phase imbalance and phase failure.

If different features are required the standard overload can simply be removed and replaced in seconds by a different module.

The advanced overload module has the same protection parameters as the standard overload as well as offering additional functions such as alarm output, fault differentiation and indication of motor load.

These are achieved by the simple addition of a plug in module which takes seconds to fit and takes up no further space.

If the user requires a more sophisticated control and protection system then a multi-function overload can be utilised.

The multifunction overload is like a motor manager and has features normally associated with higher priced solutions.

It has all the features of the standard and advanced overloads, as well as providing protection against insulation breaks, overtorque and no load running.

It also has a log function which remembers the last five faults, number of operations and hours run.

Any of the overloads parameters or fault conditions can be displayed on its integral display screen, or exported to a remote location via its Modbus RS485 port.

Motor starters can be networked very easily with the addition of a communications module that also simply plugs into the main base.

A variety of embedded protocols are available including Modbus, ASi and CANopen.

From the design stage right the way through to final installation and use, TeSys model U brings many benefits.

A design engineer has only one integrated device to use in layout diagrams which means faster design times.

Panel builders can use smaller panels and become more efficient: the motor starter's plug and play nature reduces build time and installation costs can be halved.

At only 45mm wide it is claimed as the smallest 15kW reversing starter available today.

With only two power bases (12 and 32A) and a wide bandwidth electronic overload spares are reduced to a minimum helping stockists and users alike.

By selecting and purchasing the overload after the main build is complete an OEM or panel builder can reduce their cash outlay.

More money can be saved when using DC control voltages as the AC and DC controlled products are the same physical size and the same cost.

End user site and personnel safety are enhanced by TeSys model U as it has proven total co-ordination.

After a short circuit fault the product is simply reset and can immediately be put back in to service.

This offers immense value to end users in a process environment because downtime costs are kept to the absolute minimum.
