A member of ODVA since 2003, Schneider Electric has now upgraded its involvement to become a Principal Member, thereby gaining a permanent position on the ODVA board.
Schneider Electric has significantly increased its level of participation in ODVA (Open Device Vendors Association).
This international organisation promotes the development of open technologies, and includes among its members many of the world's leading automation companies.
A member of ODVA since 2003, Schneider Electric has now upgraded its involvement to become a Principal Member, thereby gaining a permanent position on the ODVA board.
Schneider Electric's increased participation reflects the company's plans to deploy Ethernet/IP as the foundation of its network strategy, and to bring together the two leading industrial Ethernet protocols - Modbus/TCP and Ethernet/IP - which, between them, have a global market share of 51%.
This is in line with ODVA's plans to extend the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) network specifications to include compatibility with Modbus/TCP devices.
Users will benefit from the significantly increased interoperability between the largest installed bases of industrial Ethernet networks, as well as between automation products from an ever-increasing number of vendors.
Combined, these benefits will reduce the cost, time and risk involved in deploying and maintaining network architectures.
"Our customers want the level of interoperability and seamless automation of factory floor equipment that only networks using standard, unmodified Ethernet can provide", said Adrien Scole, Schneider Electric's Senior Vice President of Innovation for Automation Business.
"They also want a single network that they can use for control, information, configuration, safety, synchronisation and motion".
"Ethernet/IP is the answer to meeting these needs "since it provides compatibility with existing Modbus/TCP products, as well as access to the complete suite of services provided by CIP".
"We believe that our strengthened relationship with ODVA will make Ethernet/IP the most widely used industrial network".
