Schneider Electric has announced that electrical work on Heathrow airport's Terminal Five (T5) is nearing completion, with its Genieevo panels being utilised in the rail substation and fuel farm.

The T5 project that began in 2002 is on schedule to be finished by March 2008, with the delivery of an extensive high voltage (HV) electrical network infrastructure.

Aside from the lighting requirements of the passenger terminal and ancillary buildings, there is an electrical power requirement to drive 175 lifts, 131 escalators, 65 boarding bridges and 18km of conveyor belt for transporting luggage about the facility.

Schneider Electric is the sole supplier of the ring main units (RMU) throughout the site, which covers 260 hectares of electrical infrastructure.

Other areas of T5 equipped with Schneider Electric equipment include the rail vent substation that is fitted with Genieevo panels to control the large extraction fans used within the rail system.

A further area is the fuel farm, where eight Genieevo panels have been installed, providing a containerised solution.

Cougar Automation, one of Schneider Electric systems integrators, designed this solution.
