German giant uses bidirectional translation
German engineering giant, Kuka has chosen Theorem CADverters to provide bidirectional "feature and history" translation of data between Catia and Unigraphics design systems.
Theorem CADverters providing bidirectional "feature and history" translation of data between Catia and Unigraphics design systems have been selected by German engineering giant, Kuka in a competitive evaluation against products from several other suppliers.
The Theorem solution proved ideally suited to the requirements of Kuka's tooling and body pressing division, based at Schwarzenberg in Germany.
The company uses both Catia and Unigraphics CAD systems in-house and receives a high proportion of its product data in Catia format from major automotive industry customers.
With full design authority for tooling development, the engineers at Kuka not only regarded the seamless transfer of explicit 3D data from one system to another as essential; they also appreciate that the ability to view, evaluate and modify the development history of each CAD model could play a key role in streamlining their operations and reducing time-to-market.
The effectiveness of Theorem's translation technology was initially confirmed through use of the company's online data transfer service.
Kuka subsequently undertook a rigorous programme of on site evaluations, before making the decision to purchase CADverter and bring it into productive use as soon as possible.
Commenting on Theorem's selection, General Manager Keith Jeacock said: "Feature and history translators are not the solution for every data exchange requirement".
"But, in this case, our Catia V4 to UGNX2 Feature and History CADverter proved to be a perfect fit".
"We are delighted that Kuka has become a member of our user community, and look forward to meeting the company's product data translation needs for many years to come".
