Fastening specialist TFC has developed a bespoke snap-in guide for a tambour-front office furniture cabinet.

Fastening specialist TFC has developed a bespoke snap-in guide for a tambour-front office furniture cabinet The component has been designed to meet the specific requirements specified by the cabinet manufacturer

Previously three metal products had been used, but TFC was approached to design and produce a plastic version that would reduce cost but maintain the same level of performance as the replaced three-part assembly.

The front of the cabinet has a vertical-opening, slatted tambour that has a flexible, rolling mechanism.

The guides, which are attached to the tambour, travel on a standard rail that has a U-shaped slot.

As well as providing the running mechanism, they are necessary to prevent the tambour door from flexing.

Having established the design criteria, TFC set about producing a suitable component for the application that would fit within the existing dimensions and parameters.

Brian Goode, TFC's Technical Director, commented: "The specification for this project was very closely defined, which meant that a bespoke component was the only solution.

The final product - a plastic snap-in guide - met the demands for functionality while also delivering a reduction in unit and assembly cost.

This demonstrates the increased importance of bespoke designs to meet engineering solutions". Request a free brochure from TFC ...
