New version of 3D graphics development system

A TGS product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 13, 2001

TGS has announced the release of version 3.0 of Open Inventor, which has become the de facto standard for development of cross-platform (Windows, UNIX, Linux) 3D graphics applications in C++ and Java.

TGS, a leader in the development of object-oriented developer toolkits for 3D graphics, is proud to announce the release of its version 3.0 of Open Inventor, with an expected availability date of August 1st.

This version of Open Inventor adds even more versatility to this very high-level API.

Open Inventor has become the de facto standard for development of cross-platform (Windows, UNIX, Linux) 3D graphics applications in C++ and Java.

It is a powerful object-oriented toolkit with over 450 base classes and an intuitive and easy-to-use programming interface that allows for rapid prototyping and development of graphics applications.

Open Inventor 3.0 has many added features that broaden its functionality and strengthen its presence in the graphics toolkit marketplace.

Major enhancements in version 3.0 include...

* Solid Modeling - Provides solid modeling nodes for describing 3D shapes as combinations of other shapes using Boolean operations such as merge, intersection, or subtraction.

Visual simulation of the results can be achieved at interactive speed, even for very complex models, by a special rendering method using OpenGL acceleration, without requiring any geometric calculations.

* Data Converter - provides executables for converting various CAD/CAM file formats such as IGES 5.1, VDA-FS, STL ASCII, and DXF R14 to Open Inventor format.

Open Inventor 3.0 has an extensible architecture that allows developers to add their own functionality.

TGS is also offering ready to use extensions that will allow the developer to mix and match with its own modules.
