Linear guide hits 23,000km on single
lubrication
The new caged ball SHS LM Guide, which has become a global standard, achieves exceptionally high speed, low noise, maintenance free operation.
THK UK will be exhibiting a selection of its Caged Ball LM Guides, at MACH 2000, providing visitors to the stand with a practical demonstration of how the technology can provide smooth, reliable and fast linear motion in a wide range of machine tool applications, from the movement of tool parts in a heavy machining centre to high precision, robotic pick and place functions In particular, the company will be exhibiting a selection of caged ball LM Guides, including the heavy duty SNR guide, the high speed SSR and THK's latest addition, the SHS
SHS: The new caged ball SHS LM Guide, which has become a global standard, achieves exceptionally high speed, low noise, maintenance free operation.
The ball circulating section within the SHS is made of resin moulded in the block, which eliminates metallic noise caused by balls contacting the block, enabling the SHS to operate quietly, even at high speeds.
In addition, the ball retainers are effective in preventing balls rubbing against each other, resulting in low heat generation, super high speed performance and reduced wear over a long operating life, improved lubrication and virtually maintenance free.
In practice, this means that the SHS exhibits a 90% reduction in rolling resistance variation and achieves up to 23,000 km on initial lubrication as opposed to conventional linear guides, which require relubrication every 100km.
This results in a tremendous reduction in machine building and maintenance costs without sacrificing capacity, as load ratings for the SHS are equivalent or better than all other comparable LM guides on a size by size basis.
SSR: The compact SSR linear motion system features THK's patented Caged Ball technology, to create a high speed, low noise and virtually maintenance free linear motion system.
The SSR reduces rolling resistance fluctuation to 1/10 of previous levels and has an operating life up to 40,000 km on its primary sealed grease.
The ball contact surfaces in the LM Guide block are perpendicular to the vertical line of force, making the SSR particularly suitable for horizontal guide mechanisms and applications with high radial loads.
In addition, the balls will not produce any differential slip if subjected to uneven loads, but will continue to circulate smoothly.
This contributes significantly to both excellent wear resistance and accuracy over the full lifetime of the guide.
SNR/SNS The SNR LM Guide offers smooth, high speed, long term maintenance free operation for heavy and ultra heavy load applications.
The guides are ideal for predominantly radial loads and provide a high level of rigidity which allows exceptionally precise positioning to be achieved, with improved damping characteristics.
Featuring the benefits of THK's caged ball technology, the SNR also incorporates a series of grease pockets between each ball, which further enhance smooth motion.
This ensures that a continual film of lubricant is provided, preventing wear and extending the frequency of re-lubrication giving long term maintenance free service.
The SNR guide is available in six heavy duty models and six ultra heavy duty models and in lengths to suit all requirements.
The SHS LM Guide features all the above SNR features with equal load capacity in all directions, therefore most suited to vertical application.
