THK UK has released details of two miniature ball screws, which provide cost effective, yet highly accurate, linear motion for a wide range of limited space applications.

THK UK has released details of two miniature ball screws, which provide cost effective, yet highly accurate, linear motion for a wide range of limited space applications.

Miniature Type MTF is a rolled ball screw, which provides extremely high efficiency and accuracy at a low cost, while Type MBF is constructed using precision grinding methods to achieve exceptionally high levels of accuracy and performance.

The rolled ball screw, Type MTF, utilises the plate return method to minimise its size and ensure suitability for applications where space is limited.

The ball screw is both hard wearing and accurate, achieving an accumulated lead error of +/-0.1/300mm.

Type MTF is available in a range of shaft sizes from 6mm diameter to 12mm diameter and 1mm or 2mm lead, depending on diameter.

Type MBF ball screws are produced using precision grinding methods to achieve an extremely high lead accuracy, in a choice of either Class C3 or C5 graded models.

Type MBF ball screws feature zero backlash and are supplied with an axial play set at 5 micrometers or less, though this can be adjusted to below zero.

The MBF is available with an outside shaft diameter between 4mm and 14mm, with leads from 1mm to 4mm.

In both Type MTF and MBF standard ball screws, only the threaded section of the shaft surface is treated by carburizing hardening.

This both extends the operating life of the ball screw and allows the ends of the shaft to be machined by turning, milling, etc, if required.
