THK has released details of its adaptable GL linear actuator range, designed to provide cost effective linear motion even for high speed applications of up to 3000mm per second The new GL actuators incorporate the accurate, smooth and quiet operation of the LM Guidea type GSR with a choice of either ball screw or timing belt drive, ensuring that an appropriate GL actuator is available for stroke applications from100mm to 2700mm in length

Type GL actuators incorporate the GSR linear motion guide.

A synthetic resin end plate within the GSR guides the balls around two rows of circular arc grooves, which results in smooth linear motion over a long operating life.

The contact angle of the balls is such that the guide can carry reverse radial and lateral loads as well as moments in all directions, while a low centre of gravity guarantees stability during operation.

Furthermore, the design of the guide helps to ensure that pre-load is included automatically.

For applications requiring actuation at speeds up to 2000mm/sec and at a standard stroke length of up to 1520mm, the GL15B and GL20B ball screw drive actuators are ideal.

These models combine the GSR motion with a robust aluminium extrusion base and a ball screw in a rigid design with high load capacity.

Standard models of the GL15B can be used for stroke lengths from 100mm to 1180mm, while the standard GL20B runs from 200mm to 1520mm.

Alternatively, the GL15E and GL20E actuators can be supplied with a steel reinforced timing belt drive to provide a fast, long stroke at speeds of up to 3000mm per second.

The incorporation of a timing belt into the actuator renders the models ideal for horizontal linear motion applications, and ensures that the high linear velocity can be maintained, up to a maximum stroke of 2700mm.

Both the ball screw and timing belt GL actuators can optionally be supplied with dust protection in the form of a metal cover or conventional bellows, in order to prolong unobstructed motion and reduce the need for maintenance in dust rich environments.

In addition, proximity and photo sensors can also be supplied for direct mounting onto the T-Slots located on either side of the linear actuator base, for optimum control.
