Linear guides take on heavier duties

A THK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 23, 2005

THK has expanded its range of performance linear motion guides with units designed for use in heavy and ultraheavy load applications.

THK, the leading global designer, developer and manufacturer of linear motion solutions, has introduced a number of additions to its proven range of performance linear motion guides.

Designed for use in heavy and ultraheavy load applications, the linear guides are particularly suitable for the machine tool industry where high speeds, ultrahigh levels of rigidity, extremely precise positioning and long-term maintenance free operation are required.

The LM guides have been introduced to extend the SNR, radial type model, and SNS, four-way equal-load type model, product ranges and, in each case, incorporate THK's patented Caged Ball technology.

This improves overall performance, while significantly reducing levels of friction, heat and noise.

Indeed, so effective is the Caged Ball system that the noise levels have been reduced by more than 50%, with corresponding reductions in heat and friction.

Perhaps as importantly, the latest linear motion guides are capable of transporting exceptionally heavy loads, with the SNS in particular being rated up to 5530kN.

The latest versions of the SNR and SNS linear motion guides are available in larger rail widths of up to 85mm.

Both the SNR and SNS guides are available in six heavy duty models and six ultraheavy duty models and in lengths to suit all requirements.

In addition, a range of accessories are available to further enhance the performance of the linear motion guides, including THK's unique QZ lubrication system, that gives significantly extended maintenance intervals with reduced usage of lubricants.

Also available are contact scrapers for applications where an additional level of contamination control and protection is required.
