Jargon buster cuts through the ATEX jungle
ABB has published an "ATEX jargon buster" that helps motor users cut through the jungle of terms and definitions that make up the new ATEX Directives.
Previously called the CAD Society Award for Community, it is awarded each year to one individual who has distinguished themselves by improving communication and developing community within the CAD industry.
It has been renamed in memory of industry analyst and editor, Joe Greco, who passed away two years ago.
Greco was also President of the CAD Society at the time.
Yessios holds a PhD in CAD from Carnegie-Mellon University and his formal education includes a BArch and a diploma in law, both from the Aristotelian University in Greece.
He taught and researched at the Ohio State University from 1973 to 1995, where he was Professor of CAD and Director of the Graduate Program in Computer Aided Architectural Design.
During his tenure, he wrote and published more than 100 research papers and book chapters and conducted research that resulted in a number of prototypical CAD and 3D modelling systems.
His list of sponsors includes IBM, DEC and the National Science Foundation.
He is now Professor Emeritus at the Ohio State University.
In 1990, with David Kropp, a former student of his, he founded Autodessys, a company that produces 3D modelling software, such as Form Z.
He has been the CEO and President of the company since its start.
"Yessios was just about the perfect candidate to be the recipient of the 2006 Joe Greco Community Award based on his philosophy and commitment to the educational community", said Jeff Rowe, President of the CAD Society.
"His many years of dedication to education have inspired countless students to aspire to much loftier goals than they probably would have otherwise without his presence and support".
"I think our dear departed friend, Joe Greco, would have been very pleased with Chris Yessios as the recipient of the community award".
The CAD Society is a not-for-profit industry association with the goal of fostering a community and encouraging open communications among those who make their living within the CAD industry including AEC, mechanical, manufacturing and GIS.
