Courses help brush up IT skills
December sees the start of a series of courses by the Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) in Birmingham, to help everyone advance their IT skills.
This achievement is all the greater when seen in the light of the fact that the nationally set examination saw overall success rates below 80%.
Two tic students achieved distinctions and six others were rated with merits.
Peter Carroll, the tic's Course Director, says of the outcome: "We were very pleased to offer the diploma course this year and the results have been among the best in the country.
It is particularly pleasing as we have seen several of our students pursuing the diploma as their first educational course since leaving school.
And for some of them that was not exactly recently".
These IQA results were achieved just a few weeks after the announcement that the tic was rated as one of the country's top ten engineering faculties by the Guardian's 2003 University Guide.
The tic scored highest for value-added, which measures its success in helping students with lower entry qualifications to achieve good results.
October sees the commencement of the new academic year's intake of IQA Diploma students.
Over 40 students will enrol on the course for the coming year.
Although important in their own right, the quality diploma modules can also be vital stepping stones for students seeking a path to relevant undergraduate courses such as the management of manufacturing systems.
In addition, the tic's range of professional development certificate studies now encompass the quality diploma modules.
