ESI is holding the first of a series of free European seminars on vibro-acoustics, its "VA Roadshow", at the Technology Innovation Centre (the tic) at Millennium Point, Birmingham.

ESI's only UK, day-long event commences at 0915 GMT on 30th October 2003 and is free of charge to attending companies.

However, booking in advance is essential.

The seminar is being held in conjunction with the tic, which is establishing a significant national and international reputation in the field of noise and vibration, particularly through its automotive work.

Noise and vibration control are of increasing importance in the design of many modern products.

ESI will demonstrate how the easy-to-use AutoSEA2 software system uses the statistical energy analysis (SEA) method to ensure noise and vibration issues are minimised at product design stage.

The seminar will give an overview of this latest technology which not only covers prediction of the noise and vibration behaviour of basic structures, but also of finished and "trimmed" products such as a car fascia, or fridge door.

AutoSEA2's vibration analysis is carried out even before a prototype is made eliminating costly design errors.

The new technology is particularly relevant to transport, automotive and white goods industries.

ESI will particularly illustrate how vibration characteristics in difficult-to-measure soft materials, of the type used for sound reduction, can be assessed using limited information and test data.

Prior to the ESI seminar, Dr Richard Cornish's tic team will hold a consultation session, from 0830, to answer attending companies' questions relating to how the tic can assist with their specific needs.

They will also provide information about available business support funding.
