Free seminars highlighting the significance of noise and vibration in product design, manufacture and usage are taking place at the Technology Innovation Centre (tic), Millennium Point, Birmingham, during March 2004.

Noise and vibration are having a growing impact not only on product design, but also on workplace environments.

These seminars, on 18th, 23rd and 26th March, provide help for SMEs (small and medium enterprises) to develop the knowledge required to meet the growing demands of the marketplace.

They will also tackle the increasingly stringent health and safety standards in the workplace.

Presentations will be made by leading professionals in the NVH (noise vibration and harshness) field within the Technology Innovation Centre.

These events are part of the World Class Xpert Masterclass series.

This programme is managed by the tic for Accelerate.

It aims to improve the competitiveness of SMEs through helping them, and their staff, advance their skills and knowledge.

The first seminar entitled 'Sound power', takes place on Thursday 18th March 2004.

The legislative requirements and international measuring standards of sound power will be explored.

This will be in the context of the design, manufacture and use of outdoor, construction, automotive and aerospace products.

It will also encompass production machinery, together with testing and validation equipment.

The four-hour session commences at 9.00am.

The second in the series concentrates on how focusing on noise and vibration issues actually reduced machining production time by 30%.

It takes place at a West Midlands engineering company on Monday 23rd March at 4.30pm.

The final seminar covers 'Automotive drivetrain NVH', and takes place on Friday 26th March 2004, 9.00am until 1.00pm.

Through case studies, this event will examine the noise and vibration issues affecting the design, manufacture and use of gearboxes and final drive units in a wide range of automotive applications.

Anyone interested in attending these events are asked to reserve a place by phoning CarrieAnn Goodfellow at the tic on 0121 331 5400.
