A free seminar introducing the benefits of applying the latest technology in product design, and subsequent manufacture, is taking place at the Wolverhampton Science Park's Technology Centre, on 18th March 2004 Organised by the Technology Innovation Centre (tic), a programme manager for Accelerate, the event is entitled 'Future Design'

The latest technology enables companies both to assemble components 'virtually' - even to apply adhesive or manipulate a forging - and to visualise the final production processes.

The programme can also be extended to cover product testing and maintenance.

Using such an approach means companies can cut costs and increase efficiency in manufacturing.

When applied through the supply chain, the new technology enables both end product manufacturers and their suppliers to cooperate efficiently and to good effect.

The 'Future Design' seminar is focused on the SME's (small and medium enterprise) particular needs in bringing product design through to successful production.

Such knowledge is increasingly essential for SMEs working in highly demanding markets.

In particular, new technologies will help companies tackle the challenges of delivery, speed and cost constraints, as well as those posed by product variability requirements.

The event will be presented by Rudi Dalman, business development manager at Delmia, part of Dassault Systems and developer of Catia.

The 'Future Design' event begins with an introduction to the concept of digital design.

Through case studies, digital design's integration into the new product introduction process and the wider supply chain will be explored.

Dassault Systems' Delmia technology for SMEs will also be demonstrated.

The two and a half hour seminar commences at 1600.
