Courses help brush up IT skills
December sees the start of a series of courses by the Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) in Birmingham, to help everyone advance their IT skills.
Under the title 'Success in Design and Innovation', TIC will demonstrate its capability to improve, enhance and advance the progress of a business in virtually any market.
This is achieved through the transfer of knowledge and technology while, at the same time, developing staff skills, enabling companies to compete with the best in the world.
TIC's Head of Design and Process Innovation Dr Peter Rayson said: 'With products all too quickly becoming commodities, UK companies have to find smarter ways to build a successful business'.
'Based on innovative approaches, pioneered with US technology partners, TIC is introducing new concepts into choosing and using technology for UK businesses large and small'.
The week has three prime themes.
They cover productivity gains and competitive advantages, achievable through innovative design methods, and extend to ways of improving marketing with interactive media technologies.
Having established itself among the UK's leading technology faculties over the last five years, TIC's approach to linking education with business combines its academic expertise with a team of experienced business analysts who understand industry's needs.
Commercial Director Prof Ian Oakes said: ' We're able to call on knowledge covering some 50 technological disciplines'.
'This enables us to help companies from micro-enterprises in screen-based interactive media through to large engineering corporations'.
'Unlike conventional business consultants, TIC's help is affordable and often comes in conjunction with support from government-funded programmes'.
The 'Success in Design and Innovation' is the first time TIC has set out to promote the achievements of what parent UCE Birmingham claims to be 'a unique university resource'.
