Pillow blocks provide maintenance-free
operation
Thomson Industries has developed self-lubricating, self-aligning linear bearing pillow blocks that offer maintenance-free operation.
Thomson Industries has developed self-lubricating, self-aligning linear bearing pillow blocks that offer maintenance-free operation The advantages of this patent-pending option, which is available now on Thomson Super type and Super Smart Ball Bushing bearing pillow blocks, include: maintenance-free operation; and reduced system cost by eliminating the need for expensive lubrication systems

Thomson self-lubricating bearing pillow blocks that use high-performance Super Smart Ball Bushing bearings provide increased reliability and less downtime by offering 216 times the travel life of conventional Ball Bushing bearings and eight times the life of Super type bearings of equal size.
Super Smart Ball Bushing bearings have unique self-aligning double-track bearing plates that distribute the load equally among more balls to carry a greater load than any other design.
According to Dave Roth, Linear Bearings Product Manager, "The patented Thomson design consists of an oil-saturated polymer, a wire spring that keeps the polymer in constant contact so that the oil is applied continuously to the shaft as the bearing moves, and a double lip nitrile seal to keep the lubrication within the custom metal housing".
The oil-saturated polymer incorporated into the housing has been proven in use for over 10 years to offer maintenance-free operation in radial bearings.
The product has a successful track record in applications ranging from food processing to automotive assembly.
The new self-lubricating Ball Bushing Pillow Blocks are available in three shaft sizes: 0,5, 0.75 and 1in.
Class L 60 Case shafting should be used for optimal performance.
A modification kit is also available as an accessory for retrofitting existing non-self-lubricating Super type and Super Smart Ball Bushing bearing pillow blocks.
