Thomson Industries, with 2001 revenues of $173 million, will become a key part of the Danaher Motion Control platform.
Thomson is the leading US producer of linear motion control products - including actuators, linear bearings and shafting, ball screws, linear guides, gearheads, precision balls, engineered polymer bearings, stepper motors and custom linear systems.
Key served markets include: industrial machinery, medical, automotive, semiconductor, aerospace and mobile off-highway equipment.
Danaher Motion will combine its existing linear component and actuator businesses with Thomson Industries to create Danaher Linear Motion Systems - a strong global competitor in the linear motion field.
"With the acquisition of Thomson, Danaher Linear Motion Systems will offer our customers the broadest range of standard and custom linear motion solutions in the market today", said H Lawrence Culp Jr, President and Chief Executive Officer of Danaher Corporation.
"Thomson is known as the pioneer in linear technology in North America, and is an excellent extension of Danaher's broad leadership in Motion Control.
Given the synergies derived from the combination of the businesses, we believe that the reach of the already strong Thomson brand will be greatly extended".
Culp continued, "Danaher and Thomson have product offerings and capabilities that are highly complementary.
Coupling Danaher's proven capabilities in applying the Danaher Business System with Thomson's technological and commercial leadership in linear products will assure customers the most cost effective, highest quality, and shortest lead time linear solutions available today".
