High-speed motors maximise torque

Portescap is now offering one of Europe's widest ranges of high speed slotted brushless DC motors.

For applications requiring maximum torque from the smallest possible motor, combined with high reliability and total freedom from maintenance, Portescap is now offering one of Europe's widest ranges of high speed slotted brushless DC motors.

The range includes motors with body diameters from 13 to 38mm, all of which can be supplied in standard and autoclavable versions, the latter being particularly suitable for use in medical equipment.

Slotted construction offers a higher torque/size ratio than any other DC motor technology, and even the smallest motors in the range, with 13mm diameter bodies just 24mm long, have a continuous torque rating of 2.25mNm.

The corresponding rating for the largest units, which have 111mm-long 38mm-diameter bodies, is 224mNm.

High speeds up to 75000rev/min in the smaller size and 38000rev/min in the larger size are standard.

In addition to their high continuous torque ratings, all motors in the range have exceptionally high short-term peak torque capacity, with the figures for the units quoted above being 10.3 and 2317mNm, respectively.

Brushless construction means that Portescap's slotted motors are inherently reliable, and the incorporation of hall-effect sensors means that they are easy to drive, even in applications where precise control is needed over speed and shaft position.

As standard, the motors are supplied with 50V Y-connected three-phase windings, but customised versions are available to order.

To ensure maximum versatility, Portescap's extensive range of DC brushless slotted motors is complemented by a family of matching gearboxes further enhancing the torque available Featuring high-efficiency planetary construction and designed for easy mounting co-axially with the motor shaft, these are available in standard ratios between 4:1 and 49:1.

Other ratios are available to order, and the motors can also be supplied with a customer-specified gearbox ready-fitted.
