Carbon brush commutation extends motor life

A Danaher Motion product story

25mm Brushed Ironless DC Motors from Portescap offer a rotational spring that delivers constant spring force.

25mm Brushed Ironless DC Motors from Portescap, a Danaher Motion company, now feature a carbon brush commutation method to deliver long life and operational efficiency in high-volume manufacturing applications.

"Unlike the axial spring commutation configuration common to most brush DC motors, 25mm Brushed Ironless DC Motors from Portescap offer a rotational spring that delivers constant spring force, which extends brush life and minimises motor sensitivity to vibration shocks", says Udayan Senapati, PhD, Portescap Product Line Manager.

The new commutation method coupled with a metallic front end and optional integrated EMC filter make 25mm Brushed Ironless DC Motors well suited for rugged operation in semiconductor wafer handling and metrology, and industrial equipment applications.

Additionally, their optimised power to size ratio is ideal for power hand tool applications where the weight of the hand tool directly impacts operator comfort and efficiency.

Two versions are available, both 25mm in diameter.

The 25G is 53mm in length, weighs 145g and provides 40W of power with 40mNm continuous torque.

The 25GST is just 43mm in length, weighs 111g and delivers 27W of power with 30mNm continuous torque.
